Cllr David Wilcox to join Goram Homes’ Board
Bristol City Council has appointed Cllr David Wilcox as council representative on the Board of its wholly owned housing company, Goram Homes.
Cllr Wilcox, ward councillor for Lockleaze, will join the team as a Non-Executive Director later this month. He replaces Cllr Don Alexander, who was the council’s representative on the Board for four years.
Aman Dalvi OBE, Chair of Goram Homes, said: “We’re very pleased to welcome Cllr Wilcox to the Goram Homes Board. He brings a wealth of council experience and a passion for building sustainable communities, with the high levels of affordable housing needed across the city.
“I’d also like to thank Cllr Alexander on behalf of the whole team for his hard work and commitment to Goram Homes. We’re very grateful for his support in our formative years, as we started construction on our first sites in Lockleaze and Hengrove.”
Cllr Wilcox was elected in 2021 and has lived in Lockleaze for over 20 years.
The experienced Green Party councillor has previously served on the council’s Growth and Regeneration Scrutiny Committee, which covered planning, and is an enthusiastic supporter of sustainable housing.
Cllr Wilcox said: “I’m really looking forward to working with Goram Homes to provide the high-quality, affordable housing that Bristol urgently requires. I’ve seen first-hand the progress being made on Goram Homes’ One Lockleaze development in my ward, and I’m excited to welcome the first residents later this year. There will be spades in the ground on more sites over the next few months, so it feels like a perfect time to join the team.”
Goram Homes plans to build more than 1,000 new homes over the next five years and will start construction on two more development sites this summer, at Dovercourt Road in Lockleaze and New Fosseway Road in Hengrove.
The housing company will also begin work on the next phase of Hengrove Park, a new community of 1,435 new homes for South Bristol.
The shareholder representative on Goram Homes’ Board is selected by Bristol City Council, as the sole shareholder.
