Goram Homes has marked the latest milestone in its programme to bring forward much-needed homes for Bristol with the opening of a new show home and sales centre at The Brooklands.
The launch of The Brooklands, which is being delivered by Goram Homes in partnership with Vistry, comes as the council-owned developer scales up delivery across Bristol.
Goram Homes starts its financial year (1 April) in contract with development partners to build more than 2,000 homes, around half of which will be affordable housing, at five sites across the city, including The Brooklands.
During a visit to the development, Tony Dyer, Leader of Bristol City Council, joined partners to see first-hand the progress being made as the council-owned developer continues to unlock brownfield sites and deliver high-quality, mixed-tenure neighbourhoods for the city.
The Brooklands is transforming a disused council depot into a new neighbourhood of 140 sustainable homes, just three miles north of the city centre. Half of the homes at The Brooklands will be affordable, owned and managed by Curo, with 52 for social rent and 18 for shared owned ownership. The remaining 70 homes will be for open market sale.
The development will provide a mix of one- to four-bedroom, high-quality homes to create a balanced, mixed-tenure community.
Councillor Tony Dyer, Leader of Bristol City Council, said:
“Developments like The Brooklands show how we can make good use of brownfield land to deliver the homes our city needs. By transforming a former council depot into a new neighbourhood, we’re regenerating underused land and creating an opportunity for a new community to thrive.
“It’s particularly important that 50% of these homes will be affordable, owned and managed by Curo, one of the council’s HomesWest affordable housing delivery partners. Increasing the supply of affordable housing remains a priority for the council, and schemes like this play a vital role in helping us meet that challenge.”
Stephen Baker, Managing Director at Goram Homes, said:
“We’re very proud to be working with Vistry to transform this former depot into a new neighbourhood that offers a range of high-quality homes, half of which will be affordable housing.
“The first completions at The Brooklands showcase the ‘real-world’ progress we’re making at Goram Homes. We’re starting the financial year with more than 2,000 homes contracted to be built across the city as we accelerate our housing delivery programme to meet Bristol’s urgent housing needs.”
Susan Schofield, Regional Managing Director for Vistry Bristol, added:
“The Brooklands demonstrates the strength of our partnership with Goram Homes. By working together, we’re able to bring forward mixed-tenure developments that breathe new life into formerly under-used land while delivering much-needed homes.”
In March, Dundry View will complete as Goram Homes’ first finished residential development, delivering 100% affordable housing for Bristol City Council. The 53-home development is a part of the company’s landmark Hengrove Park development which will create a new neighbourhood of over 1,400 high quality, energy efficient homes for south Bristol.
Residents continue to move into One Lockleaze, which is providing 268 homes with 55% affordable housing and is being delivered in partnership with Vistry. Construction is progressing at The Fosseway Phase One, where Goram Homes is building 130 homes on a former school site in Hengrove, also in partnership with Vistry. Half of these homes will be affordable housing. The Fosseway Phase Two will see 70 affordable, extra care homes for older people delivered by Anchor. Work has also recently started at Baltic Wharf on Spike Island. The development will provide 166 homes, 66 of which will be affordable, and help to support the wider regeneration of the city’s harbourside.
Goram Homes’ delivery programme forms part of Bristol City Council’s wider ambition to increase housing supply, accelerate housing delivery on council-owned land and create sustainable, mixed communities across the city.
