One Lockleaze wins Best Residential Development

Our first development, One Lockleaze, was awarded Best Residential Development at the Bristol Property awards, held on Friday 24th November at Ashton Gate.

It beat eight other residential developments to take the top prize at the annual awards ceremony.

The panel of judges said:

“As a residential development, this has everything: sustainable, eco-focussed, affordable homes creating a community and featuring a new park forming a wildlife corridor.”

We’re building One Lockleaze in partnership with Countryside Partnerships. Just over half (55%) of the 268 high quality, eco-focused homes being built on the former school site will be for affordable housing, a mixture of council housing and shared ownership.

The first homes are almost complete, with residents due to move in early next year. Families living in One Lockleaze will benefit from a new park at the heart of the development, connecting the Concorde Way cycle and pedestrian route to well-loved Stoke Park.

Stephen Baker, MD of Goram Homes, added:

“I’m incredibly proud of this partnership and the high standards we’ve set for One Lockleaze. We’re creating a place here that people will love to live in, but we’re doing so in a way that addresses our climate challenges, too. These homes are thoughtfully designed, packed with sustainable features, and designed to create a thriving community.”

Cllr Tom Renhard, Cabinet Member for Housing Delivery and Homelessness, added:

“One Lockleaze is a blueprint for new housing developments in our city, and I’m thrilled it’s been recognised by the judges. This development is proof that council-owned housing companies like Goram Homes can create exceptional, well-designed, sustainable homes, with high levels of council-owned homes providing a secure, warm and safe place to live for people in need too.”

In the last year, Bristol built 1,599 new homes, 309 of which were affordable, with more than 86% of these homes built on previously developed ‘brownfield’ land. In addition, 3,040 new homes are currently under construction as of 1 April 2023.

We’re also supporting the community during construction. Our One Lockleaze Skills academy, which opened in May this year, has already trained more than 200 young people, kickstarting careers in the construction industry.

Darren Dancey, MD of Countryside Partnerships West, said:

“As the first development to come forward in our partnership with Goram Homes, One Lockleaze is demonstrating what can be achieved through public and private collaboration, when all parties want the best outcome for local residents. Together we’re delivering quality new affordable and open market homes, providing skills and training opportunities for the local community, and creating a place that people will love for many years to come.”
