One Lockleaze Skills Academy

Free construction training

The One Lockleaze Skills Academy is a unique training centre on a live development site, designed to help people kickstart their career in construction.

It offers free short courses* for adults aged 19+ and provides the perfect opportunity to learn the essential skills required for a job on a construction site.

The academy has both classroom and practical workspaces, meaning you could be learning the art of plastering, plumbing or brickwork on a real house, on an active building site.

*The fully funded courses are subject to eligibility and depend on your employment status and earnings. At the moment, we are prioritising those who are unemployed or earning less than the minimum wage. Please contact enquiries@pib.cityofbristol.ac.uk for more information and to check if you’re able to access the funding.

The courses:

Level 1 BTEC Certificate – 10 days

This course will qualify you to work on site within the construction industry and give you a CSCS card on completion. The course includes a range of units covering topics such as:

Identifying Hazards and Risk
Manual Handling
Working at Height
Risks to Health
Plant and Machinery

Courses are open now

Level 2 BTEC Certificate – 8 weeks

There will be a number of different options available here, depending on demand, including carpentry, plumbing, brickwork and painting and decorating.

Adults aged 19+ looking to start a career in the construction industry
People new to the job market or looking for a career change
Aspiring plumbers, electricians, plasterers, carpenters, or bricklayers

Our specialist instructors are from Partners in Bristol, an organisation that works alongside City of Bristol College to offer fully funded construction training. Alongside the courses, they also support people into jobs through connections with businesses across the city.

We have launched the skills academy in partnership with national housebuilder Countryside Partnerships and City of Bristol College training provider, Partners in Bristol. The One Lockleaze Skills Academy is designed to provide local people with the skills they need to obtain employment opportunities in the city and help address a skills shortage within the construction industry.
