We welcomed Karin Smyth MP to our ‘Dundry View’ development
Karin Smyth, MP for Bristol south, visited our construction site of 53 new council homes in Hengrove last week, being delivered by Goram Homes and The Hill Group.
The 100% affordable housing development, to be named Dundry View when complete, is the first part of Goram Homes’ wider plans to develop 1,435 new homes at Hengrove Park, the largest development in Bristol in a generation.
The apartment block sits at the entrance to Hengrove Park and will create 27 apartments for council-owned social rent, and 26 apartments for shared ownership. These homes will become part of the council’s housing stock and are being funded by a mix of borrowing and funding from Homes England
Karin Smyth MP saw modern methods of construction in action, walking through the steel framed compartments that make up each room. These frames are constructed at a factory off site and craned into position, which leads to more precision and less construction waste.
Air source heat pumps will provide low carbon heating and hot water, and high levels of insulation aims to reduce energy use and, in turn, lower bills for future residents. It’s anticipated the development will be complete and ready to move into later this year.
Stephen Baker, Managing Director of Goram Homes, said: “We know how important the Hengrove Park development is for south Bristol, so it was fantastic to welcome Karin Smyth MP to the very first phase on site today. We look forward to welcoming new residents to Dundry View”.
More than two thirds of the workforce building the development are local. And so far, 56 people have been employed from BS3, BS4, BS5, BS13 and BS14 postcodes – including the apprentices.
Allan O’Brien, Regional Director of Hill Group, said: “We are proud to have been chosen by Goram Homes and Bristol City Council to deliver much-needed affordable homes in this new residential quarter in south Bristol.
“We are utilising modern methods of construction at Hengrove Park, installing steel frames which have been built off-site, to make the build process as efficient as possible – helping to speed up delivery and improve quality to achieve our partners’ ambitious housebuilding targets for the area.”
We will soon start work on the next phase of the Hengrove Park development. Half of the 209 homes in this phase will be for social rent and shared ownership. Once complete Hengrove Park development will also feature a 22-hecatre public park, the size of around 30 football pitches
