Plans to deliver much needed affordable homes on brownfield land in Lockleaze have taken a step forward today (12th October 2022) as councillors back an outline application for the site at Dovercourt Road.

Goram Homes, and its partner Keepmoat Homes, will now work with the local community to create detailed plans for the 140 new homes, before a reserved matters planning application is submitted.

The previously developed brownfield site is in walking and cycling distance to the city centre, has good public transport links and is close to employment opportunities in Filton and at Southmead Hospital.

Goram Homes aims to deliver 50% affordable housing and, alongside Keepmoat Homes, will work closely with the local community to ensure the new development brings real benefits to the area and to the people of Lockleaze.

Ambitions for the site include building net zero carbon homes to help reduce energy bills and tackle the climate crisis, enhancing biodiversity in the area, and creating new public spaces for the local community.

Cllr Tom Renhard, Cabinet Member for Housing delivery and Homes, said:

“This is an important step forwards for the development at Dovercourt Road, and plans to build high quality, sustainable homes with a high level of affordable housing. Goram Homes will now work with the people of Lockleaze to further develop plans to create a thriving neighbourhood and much needed homes for the people of Bristol.”

Stephen Baker, Managing Director at Goram Homes, said:

“There is an urgent need for more homes in Bristol, so I’m delighted we’ve received outline planning permission for 140 new homes in Lockleaze. This disused brownfield site is an ideal opportunity to help reduce pressures on Bristol City Council’s housing waiting list and build much needed affordable housing in the city.

“Our focus now will be to work alongside the local community to create detailed plans that will truly benefit the area, including delivering traffic calming measures on Dovercourt Road.”

John Owen, Land and Partnerships Director at Keepmoat Homes, said:

“We’re really looking forward to delivering a fantastic housing community in the vibrant city of Bristol, in partnership with Goram Homes. As a UK leading partnership housebuilder, regenerating this brownfield site is incredibly exciting and aligns perfectly with our extensive knowledge and experience in building high-quality homes. We look forward to working with the people of Lockleaze to shape this new community.”
