Goram Homes supports the Queen’s Green Canopy initiative “Plant a tree for the Jubilee”
Bristol City Council and Goram Homes offering 70 free mini-orchards to schools across Bristol
Bristol City Council and Goram Homes are working together to support The Queen’s Green Canopy – a unique tree planting initiative created to mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022 which invites people from across the United Kingdom to “Plant a Tree for the Jubilee”.
As part of this project, Goram Homes are offering 70 free mini-orchards, to schools across Bristol. Each mini orchard will include three fruit trees and schools will be supported with a planting pack and help from the One Tree Per Child team.
The fruit trees will be delivered to participating schools in January 2022.
Benefits of a mini orchard
Schools can use their mini orchard to teach about the environment and for lesson plans. Fruit trees absorb carbon, help screen out noise and pollution and provide a home for wildlife. In autumn, the chosen schools will have a harvest of fresh and healthy fruit for the classroom.
Apply for a mini-orchard
To apply, schools will need to have space for three fruit trees in their school grounds so that the trees can be planted together at least four metres apart. Alternatively, the trees can be planted in 50 litre pots supplied by the school.
The school will then be responsible planting the trees – with help from the One Tree Per Child team – and for the maintenance of the trees including weeding and watering. The trees can then be added on the Queen’s Green Canopy map, to mark the occasion.
Schools can apply here from 2 November to 3 December 2022.
